University of Arkansas Outreach
To meet its land-grant university responsibility of contributing to the public good, the University of Arkansas generates numerous public service and outreach programs which have an impact on the lives of hundreds of thousands of Arkansans every year. Besides the DRDC and relative to community and economic development projects, such outreach programs include:
The University of Arkansas Community Design Center (UACDC), a program of the School of Architecture, offers planning and design services for communities throughout Arkansas. Since 1995 UACDC has assisted with projects in Bentonville, Springdale, Fayetteville, Hot Springs, Arkadelphia, and other locales.
The Center
for Business and Economic Research (CBER), in
the Sam M. Walton College of Business, offers economic,
demographic and business data to all citizens in
Arkansas who request it. Many of these constituents
include new business start-ups and those wishing
to expand their business or market area.
The Public Policy Ph.D. program, located in the Graduate School, draws upon the strengths of many academic departments and disciplines to meet its education, outreach and service goals. The program focus is on training leaders who will directly affect policy issues relevant to the people of Arkansas, the region, and the nation. As part of the educational and service mission of the University of Arkansas, the new Ph.D. program provides a forum for the consideration of policy issues by students, faculty, and the larger community. Accordingly, among the fields of specialized study are: Community Development Policy, Family Policy, Environmental Policy, Education Policy, Health Policy, Transportation Policy, Recreation Policy, Public Policy Management, and Agricultural Policy. Policy Ph.D.s work as legislative aides, program directors, policy analysts, budgeting and program analysts, teachers and researchers, advocates, lobbyists and in many other capacities in the non-profit, public and private sectors.
